Former Chelsea man Ray Wilkins has stated that Chelsea’s Willian is more likely to join Manchester United than Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.
The Germany international’s contract at the Emirates is set to expire at the end of the current season and with the German international showing no interest in signing an extension, there has been tons of reports that Ozil will be leaving the Emirates Stadium – either in January or at the end of the season.
It is no secret that the Red Devils are currently monitoring the German star’s progress very closely and given the fact that Jose Mourinho shares a very good relationship with the 29-year-old, a reunion at Old Trafford has been seen as a real possibility.
However, Chelsea legend Ray Wilkins is not very certain that Ozil will be a good man for United despite all his qualities due to the fact that he does not work very had off the ball and instead, Wilkins suggested that Ozil who could actually be set for a reunion with former boss at Old Trafford is Willian.
He said: “Mesut Ozil won’t go to Old Trafford because he doesn’t have the work ethic that Mourinho looks for in his players. I actually see Willian as being the likely player to head to Old Trafford. Jose is an enormous admirer of Willian and he would be a special signing for United, but I pray that Chelsea don’t let him go.”
“Ozil needs to go back to Germany, enjoy his football again and get around the pitch as he likes doing. In the Premier League, you’re expected to work hard defensively for your team, and I don’t think Mesut does that enough. Against Spurs, he was excellent in doing that, tracking Christian Eriksen, but he needs to do that every game, it can’t be one game in 20.”
