Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the transfer of Schalke midfielder Leon Gorezka on a free transfer, dealing another massive blow to Manchester United’s plans.
The Red Devils may have beaten the Gunners in the Premier League last weekend, but the latest report on Goretzka suggests it’s a double victory for Arsene Wenger over Jose Mourinho off the pitch this week.
The Sun now claims the Gunners look set to win the race for the Germany international’s signature, with the 22-year-old expected to join Wenger’s side on a Bosman once his contract expires in the summer.
Sky Sports recently linked the Old Trafford as admirers of Goretzka, and it’s easy to see why Mourinho might be after new signings in that position due to Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini’s contract situations.
Arsenal, however, successfully signed former Schalke Sead Kolasinac on a free this summer, and now look set to repeat the trick by bringing in his teammates as well.
The Sun claim Arsenal have seen off competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona as well, with midfielder on look set for greener pasture away from Schalke.
Goretzka can be played in a variety of roles and would appear as an upgrade for Arsenal in the middle of the park after some poor performances from the likes of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin of late.
The young midfielder could also be an ideal replacement for the injured Santi Cazorla, who latest Arsenal news confirms he faces even longer out after the latest update from Wenger.
