According to reports, Atletico Madrid centre-back Saul Niguez would be joining Manchester United next summer. The 22-year-old has proved himself as one of Diego Simeone’s number 1 players at Madrid since making his debut five seasons ago.
Jose Mourinho is interested in strengthening his options in midfield and attack, although it has been claimed that the Red Devils boss must offload before buying ahead of the January transfer window. The Sun suggests that Mourinho has been a “long-time admirer” of Niguez and is considering a move for the Spaniard.
The report from the British outlet suggests that the player would be open to joining the Old Trafford club if a deal can be agreed.
However, the club’s main hurdle is being able to agree on a transfer price with the Rojiblancos. He signed a nine-year deal with Atletico in July, and his new deal involves a €150 million (£133m) release clause.
