It’s has been a difficult time for Luke Shaw since his arrival at Old Trafford in 2014, and his spell at Old Trafford could reportedly be coming to an end.
As per BBC Sport, the Red Devils signed him from Southampton in a deal that could be worth £31m, and the 22-year-old simply hasn’t proven he’s worth such a price-tag.
Aside from the fact that Marcos Rojo will be closing in on a return from injury in the coming weeks, Ashley Young has even established himself above Shaw in the pecking order at Old Trafford as he impressed again in the win over Tottenham in that role last weekend.
In his three seasons that he’s been with United, Shaw has failed to make more than 20 appearances across all competitions in a single season. While he’s had bad luck with injuries along the way, Shaw’s also had issues with Jose Mourinhos with BT Sport noting how the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss slammed the player’s attitude last season.
Injuries have once again been a problem for Shaw this season, limiting him to just two brief appearances in the League Cup, and so in turn, it looks as though Mourinho could be ready to cut their losses on him and allow Shaw to leave for a fresh start.
According to The Sun, sources claim that the Red Devils ‘allow him to leave on loan in January with a view of selling him on a permanent basis in the summer’.
In turn, the future for Shaw at Man Utd seemingly looks bleak, while he’ll have ambitions of making the England squad for the World Cup in Russia next summer too.
As per the Sun, if the right offer arrives, he’ll likely go. It seems likely to be the best decision for both parties, as Shaw will get a chance to kickstart his career, while United will have a chance to strengthen in that area and possibly bring in a natural left-back after a disappointing three years with Shaw.
