Jose Mourinho would like to bring Barcelona’s and Brazilian international skipper Neymar Jr. to Old Trafford if he decided to leave the Nou Camp, according to reports.
The Brazilian has previously stated it would be impossible to sign the former Santos man as he expects him to replace Argentinian Lionel Messi as the La Liga giants next talisman.
The Red Devils’s interest Antoine Griezmann showcased their ambitions to complete a marquee signing this summer and folowing his decision to remain at the Madrid club, the Portuguese manager side have also been linked with the likes of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Neymar Jr. is spoken strongly in United’s offices. Mourinho’s logic dictates that the Brazilian is younger, with more potential and even more media coverage than Cristiano Ronaldo,”as quoted by Diario Gol.
“Away from the shadow of Messi, he could play at the level that many times he has shown for Brazil. If they want to sign him, United would have to offer €200m. An affordable amount for the club that paid a world record fee for Paul Pogba.”
Here’s what Mourinho previously had to say about the situation:
“I always try to be objective and pragmatic with the clubs and ask the clubs for what can be given to me. Neymar is absurd,” he said. “A club like Barcelona cannot and will not lose Neymar.
“Although Messi is still a young player with years to go, he is already 30, and Neymar will be the great player of Barcelona after Messi. I think [trying to sign Neymar is like] going to try to break into a safe, impossible.”
A deal for the £250,000-a-week star would be incredible at Old Trafford, but there’s no chance of him leaving, even if United were willing to pay the €200m for his services.
