Manchester United will reportedly try and make a move for Borussia Dortmund’s and German World Cup winner Marco Reus this summer as he’s been marked as Wayne Rooney’s replacement.
The 31-year-old England forward has won all there is to win during his 13-year spell with Manchester United, while he is now our all-time record goalscorer having surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton earlier this season.
With all that there is to be achieved at Old Trafford already secured, Rooney has been widely linked with making a move elsewhere this summer as he shows signs of loss of form and it appears as though Jose Mourinho is making plans to further bolster his squad this summer.
According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Atletico Madrid are keen on signing the Dortmund £120,000-A-Week star, who has fend-off injury troubles behind him this season and returned to playing at high level he’s chipped in with 11 goals and eight assists in 21 appearances in all competitions.
However, it’s added that Atletico will face stiff competition from Manchester United, as Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in Reus to Old Trafford as an upgrade on Wayne Rooney.
We have been linked with countless forwards around Europe even before the summer transfer window has opened for business, and it’s only likely to ramp up in volume and strength when the season finishes.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic day of return now unlikely after suffering a serious knee injury last month with his contract set to expire in two months, not only will Rooney need to potentially be replaced but the loss of the former Paris Saint-Germain forward will need to be addressed too and so perhaps we should not be expecting Marco Reus to be only new face at Old Tafford next season.
