Jose Mourinho is reported to have made contact with Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas during the Red Devils’ 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend.
The Red Devils looked second best for most of the game, and they eventually surrender to their second defeat of the season after Alvaro Morata scored the winner for Chelsea with a bullet header.
According to Spanish outlet, Don Balon, Mourinho used his return to Stamford Bridge to hold a secret conversation with Fabregas, whose contract with Chelsea expires in just over 18 months’ time.
The Spaniard played in a three-man midfield for the reigning Premier League champions on Sunday, and Fabregas passing and movement was exceptional as he outclassed the likes of Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic in midfield.
Despite the report, there has not been any contact between Chelsea and Man United over a future transfer for ex-Arsenal captain, and any deal in the future seems unlikely to happen after an unwise relationship built up between Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
We have already benefited from the services of Nemanja Matic, who joined us from Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer, but a similar raid looks unlikely with the Spaniard earning regular playing time under Conte. The Spaniard is one of the top earners at the club, bagging a whooping £155,000-a-week in his contract with Chelsea that runs until 2019.
Following last weekend’s defeat, we find ourselves eight points behind table-toppers Manchester City, who won their ninth Premier League game on the trot.
