We’re given a huge boost after it was revealed that Welsh winger Gareth Bale is open for a move this summer. The 27-year-old is easily one of the best player in his position in Europe at the moment but since under Zinedine Zidane, Bale has not been able to nail a starting lineup in the first team regularly at the Bernabeu.
According to English tabloid Independent, the Champions League winner are happy to open negotiations for the £86m winger. The outfit also report that the former Tottenham Hotspur man is open to a switch to Old Trafford.
United manager Jose Mourinho helped his side to the Champions League by winning the Europa League. However, they are now set to miss out on signing Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann. Manchester United need a world class player with European pedigree to take them forward and the Welshman could be the perfect man for the club.
Mourinho will have no problem building his team around the 27-year-old as he has already played under Mourinho during their time at the Spanish capital and the manager will have no problem building his team around the 27-year-old. So how will the Red Devils line up with Gareth Bale in their squad?
The ‘Special One’ is expected to stick to a 4-3-3 system to try and get the best out of Paul Pogba, the world record signing. This will mean that the Welshman is an automatic starter on the right wing.
In Bale’s role, Mourinho has used the likes of Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard and will be a massive upgrade on the three of them. Lingard may find first team chances hard to come by next season while former Chelsea Mata may not be at the club come September.
As for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the Albanian star has been brilliant when used in a number 10 role but he might have to drop onto the bench or play in the playmaker role when the Portuguese manager shifts to a 4-2-3-1. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have been brilliant in patches and the Portuguese man will hope that they can find some consistency next season. They will take their turns playing on the left wing, also helping out as a striker when needed.
Mourinho is not going to end his business even if he gets his hands-on Gareth Bale. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic not expected to extend his contract, United need a proper number 9 who can take the Swede’s role from the current campaign and the Portuguese boss already has some names that he wants the club to target.
Bale on the right wing, Martial or Rashford on the left and a superstar striker will make Manchester United one of the strongest attacks in Europe. However, they will have to spend some big bucks to get the right players to the club this summer.
