According to Don Balon, Manchester United will move in for Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Despite being just 21 years of age, the Spaniard is already one of the most valuable assets in European football.
Asensio scored 10 goals in 38 appearances for Real Madrid during last season, and he has already find the next six times this season in 17 appearances.
He only signed a new long-term contract with the Champions League and Spanish cup holders in September, but according to Don Balon, a release clause of £75m was placed in his new contract, which has attracted the interest of Man United and Arsenal. Asensio is reportedly earning £75,000-a-week on his new contract at Bernabeu.
It seems unlikely that that young Spaniard would be interested in leaving Santiago Bernabeu at this stage of his career, but as the saying goes, where there’s smoke there’s fire, Man United have the capability to entice the brilliant attacker to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
It could be argued that any player that leaves Real Madrid is stepping down a level, but the Red Devils are one of the few clubs in world football that can match the reigning European champions.
Should we activate the £75m release clause, it would be up to Asensio to decided whether he wanted to try plying his trade in the Premier League.
According to the above-mentioned Spanish source, the Asensio is a bit worried with his lack of playing time this season. Indeed, the has actually only played 45 minutes of Champions League for Zidane’s side this season.
Real Madrid might be the holder of the Spanish title and European crown, but they’ve struggled in recent weeks, and it promises to be a fascinating few weeks at the Bernabeu. There is no question they would want to sell him, but it would up to the player to decided whether or not if Man United were prepared to spend £75m next summer.
