Paul Pogba displayed one of the best performances of his Manchester United career on Thursday night with a man-of-the-match performance in our 1-0 win at Celta Vigo.
The Frenchman was dynamic, turning opposition side defence into attack with three interceptions and six dribbles, as our side took hold of the Europa League semi-final tie, which the second phase will be played at Old Trafford next week.
Although we had less possession than the Spanish side – 57% to Celta’s 42% – the former Juventus man had more touches of the ball than any player on either side.
Playing on the counter-attack, the speedy Marcus Rashford up front was a key striker. The 19-year-old Englishman rose to the occasion, working tirelessly.
His reward came, somewhat surprisingly, direct from a free kick.
A brilliant effort scored straight from the set piece was an indication of his confidence and willingness to rise up to the occasion in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Also, Jesse Lingard also worked hard, but let himself down with poor finishing, wasting two great chances.
