Manchester United finished 6th in the Premier League last season and Ander Herrera was nominated as the team’s Player of the Year.
The Spaniard was impressive in the last season but this season, Herrera has mostly warmed the bench because Mourinho has preferred to use the likes of Pogba and Matic in his midfield.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss still feels that the ex-Athletic Bilbao star is an important member of his squad and therefore, as per an exclusive report covered by Spanish source, Marca, the Old Trafford club have moved to agree a contract extension with him to fend-off interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.
A similar kind of news was reported by the Daily Mail last month as well but there have not been any confirmation from the club regarding this.
After the extension, Herrera’s deal with the club will expire in 2019 and presently, the Spaniard is earning – according to the Daily Star, around £100,000-a-week ($135,000-a-week).
This season, Herrera has played 18 games so far for Man United and provided only one assist. For such a player ageing, do you think he deserve a contract extension?
