Manchester United have reportedly made an offer worth £177million to Real Madrid for the transfer of Marco Asensio, who is tempted by the prospect of joining Man United.
According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, it claimed the Red Devils are prepared to make Asensio the highest paid player in the Premier League with a proposed £24m a year contract if he joins the Red Devils.
Asensio has long been regarded as one of the best up-and-coming talents in the game, having broken through Zinedine Zidane’s first-team last season.
Elsewhere, Diario Gol claimed Asensio’s considering his future at Madrid, with the Los Blancos’ interest in Chelsea star Eden Hazard possibly set to persuade him to force an exit from Santiago Bernabeu.
This would be good news for our side, who are clearly big fans of the young Spaniard’s abilities, with a £177m transfer enough to make Asensio the most expensive Premier League signing of all time.
Our club have not been shy of splashing the cash on big-player purchases in recent years, with significant fees spent on the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nemanja Matic in the last two summers.
Asensio, however, would eclipse BBC Sport‘s reported fee of £89m Man United paid Juventus for the signing of Pogba, who is both our club-record signing and the Premier League costliest in English football to date. But Neymar’s move to Paris St. Germain in the summer still remains the world-record move surpassing Pogba’s last summer move to Man United.
